Just what is Charlotte going to discover。 Apart from the fact that Moriarty is able to exercise an hypnotic quality。 Pertinent in these days of seances。 Miss Baxter’s situation is indeed problematic。 Moriarty is endeavoring to control his daughter as much as he controls Marbleton。 The irony of Mr。 Marbleton’s situation is not lost on either Charlotte or Marbleton。 And others have suffered as Moriarty extends that power。 As we become well aware。Charlotte’s sister Livia is fearful of Moriarty’s visit and struck anew by her love for Stephen Marbleton, a man in service to Moriarty。 Charlotte is convinced Marbleton has left a message for them。 She is desperate to find out what。 Livia takes on some of this enquiry。 Lord Ingham becomes involved of course and his and Charlotte’s relationship ratchets up a knot or two。 I was in stitches over Charlotte’s rather salacious letters to Ingham。 And her knitting! Oh my, she’s deliciously wicked!Livia has always annoyed me but in this instance I was awed by her determination。 She’s coming out of her shell。Chock full off intrigue, double blinds, red herrings, and quadrupled excitement, this Lady Sherlock episode is a grand statement indeed!A Berkley penguinrandomhouse ARC via NetGalley 。。。more

That criminal persona, who’s been a shadowy figure till now, finally comes calling。 (Note: BookPage does not use a star system but i'd say it's about 4。5 stars) 。。。more

I was so confused, as many, many references were made regarding events in past books; the same thing was true as to characters。 However, I adored the main characters here, and they are the reason for my 4 star review。 Had I read the first books, I imagine it would have merited 5 stars, as what I comprehended here of the plot was loads of fun。Charlotte Holmes has an unexpected client arrive at her office, and that man is the criminal mastermind himself, Moriarty。 He claims to be very worried about his daughter, and he wants Charlotte to determine her well-being。 Charlotte and Mrs。 Watson head to a remote community of an occult sect near Cornwall where Moriarty's daughter was last seen, said occultist members being quite an odd lot。 Charlotte's special friend and ally Lord Ingram also makes his way there using an alias。 And back home, Charlotte's sister Livia is attempting to decode a mysterious message from her beau Mr。 Marbleton。 The more Charlotte discovers about Miss Moriarty, the more ensnared her relationship with Moriarty becomes。As I said previously, a lot of the plot went way over my head since I did not read about the gang's prior cases。 However, the incidents I did follow were quite imaginative and exciting。 It was the characters that totally made this book for me! Charlotte Holmes used her "brother" Sherlock Holmes as a cover for her investigations。 No one in Victorian England would engage the services of a woman investigator, so she made up a brilliant but ill Sherlock who was never seen, while she actually solved the cases。 Charlotte was an amazing heroine! She was extremely intelligent and level headed and often did not show much emotion。 She wore bright and colorful clothing with lots of furbelows, and her colors didn't always go together。 She truly enjoyed eating, particularly desserts。 I adored her hidden side that she shared with her lover Ash Ingram: giggles, risque letters and some objects with, um, interesting uses。 It made her seem more more human and approachable。 Ash was dealing with a divorce and trying to figure out how to tell his young children。 He'd been on archaeological digs in the past and was quite talented making weapons; he was also good at stealth work。 He seemed like the perfect man for Charlotte。 I just adored Mrs。 Watson。 She was like family to Charlotte and her sisters, and could be a fierce mama bear when necessary! She had an affectionate and sweet relationship with Ash。 Livia wrote about "Sherlock's" exploits and helped her sister do research, all the while pining for her beau Mr。 Marbleton, who was Moriarty's son。 Miss Moriarty was a totally intriguing enigma, and Moriarty was evil as expected。 This book 's amazing cast of characters is calling me to read their stories that I missed。 I know I will not be disappointed!I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher and Edelweiss。 I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own。 。。。more

Everything here was just so superbly satisfying。 The titular Miss Moriarty and the identity of her, uh, co-conspirator。 The advancement in the relationship between Charlotte and Lord Ingram。 Mrs。 Watson's steadfast support。 Livia's agonizing feelings for poor tormented Mr。 Marbleton。 UGH。 The only real drawback of reading a title as an ARC is that the wait for the next book is EVEN LONGER。 I don't want to spoil any details, because even one detail might cause the house of mysterious cards to come tumbling down and ruin the surprise, but suffice to say, I was completely wowed and am absolutely dying to get my hands on the next book already。 (I'm aware I will be waiting quite some time, darn it。) Kudos to you, Ms。 Thomas, on this gem of a book。 I am in awe。 。。。more

The series has built to this moment- a face to face between Charlotte Holmes and Moriarity。 Charlotte the brain behind the Sherlock Holmes persona has met her match and feels the danger of playing real life chess with such an opponent。 Love this series and could not wait to dive into the pages of this tension-wrought latest installment。My full review will post at The Reading Frenzy TBA。

And as you are consuming these confections, would you like some very intimate details about your habits and history to be seemingly psychically unearthed by your cherubic-looking all-seeing dining companion? If so, the latest entry in the Lady Sherlock series by the redoubtable, prolific author Sherry Thomas might just be what the doctor ordered。 Miss Moriarty, I Presume adds additional spirals to the slow-building plot web of the previous Lady Sherlock novels, featuring the brilliant emotionally inaccessible fallen woman Charlotte Holmes, fronting for her nonexistent ailing brother Sherlock, assisted by the large-hearted multi-talented former actress Mrs。 Watson, and the handsome, athletic, besotted Lord Ingram。 Other spinning subplots are revisited, and advanced, albeit very slowly (at least until the end) including the obstacle-ridden romance between Charlotte’s reserved literary older sister Olivia with the young love-struck Mr。 Marbleton, the natural son of Moriarty who has been taken hostage by him。 And then there’s the continued worrisome absence of Myron Finch, Charlotte’s and Olive’s half brother (and former coachman), who was once under the employment of Moriarty, but now is being relentlessly pursued by him。 This is more than enough to load the literary dining table, but in a nod to Victorian extravagance, the main course, concerns the whereabouts of Moriarty’s estranged daughter, Miss Baxter, who has been living with an occultist Hermetist cult in outside of a small village on the Cornish coast。 This book, has perhaps the most vivid and pulse pounding opening scenes in the entire series, when Moriarty, going by the name, Mr。 Baxter, calls on Charlotte for the ostensible purpose of securing her services to determine the whereabouts and well-being of his daughter who has suddenly seemingly disappeared, from this small, intimate sect of spiritual devotees。 Mr。 Baxter suspects a cover-up and wants Charlotte to seek entrance to the cult。 And so she agrees, seeing no out other than flight from the country。 What follows is a lush brocade of a plot, with alliances of the denizens of the Hermetists and sightings of the mysterious Miss Baxter shifting more quickly than the weather of the windswept tumultuous Cornish waters。 And yes for those who have been eagerly watching and waiting, there is enough heat in Charlotte’s and Lord Ingram’s encounters here, to power several small factories。 The Lady Holmes books always exhibit a tension between the complex plot points and Thomas’s salubrious skills honed as a romance writer。 Sometimes these elements play off each other to great comic affect, and sometimes it's a bit disconcerting to have the sudden shift in tone。 But they are often compelling, though in Miss Moriarty I Presume, the most engaging passages are written from Livia’s point of view, describing her tremulous attempts to decipher codes and clues to rescue Mr。 Marbleton and in the process discovering her own bravery and sense of self。 The plot twists, especially those concerning the elusive Miss Baxter, at the last third of the book come fast and furious, and sometimes lead to excess。 Still the menace of Moriarty never seems caricatured, but develops in increasingly chilling detail to an unsettling, open-ended, yet mostly satisfying conclusion。 So just like some of Charlotte's favorite dresses and desserts, one could argue the narrative sometimes shows an overabundance of flavors, fripperies, and revelations, but when the total effect is so divertingly entertaining, who cares? Sign me up for the next installment; I’ll bring the plum cake, whiskey, and hand-knitted tea anatomically correct tea cozies。 。。。more

Can they keep both Holmes and Moriarty’s daughter safe?We haven’t left Olivia, Charlotte’s sister, and Mr。 Marbleton out of the story, they just play smaller roles。 While the roles may be smaller, they are pivotal to the characters and probably to future books。 I had hoped the Moriarty thing would be solved within the first half-dozen or so books, but he’s still there。 I’d at least like to see him get a major set-down so the characters who are currently living in fear can breathe a little easier for a while – especially poor Mr。 Marbleton。My advice is to quit reading this review and begin reading the book。 Once you do, you won’t be able to put it down, so have everything you’ll need within an arm’s reach。 Happy Reading!I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 。。。more

I received an Advanced Read Copy from NetGalley in return for an honest review。There is a lot going on in the sixth installment of the Lady Sherlock Series。 Sherry Thomas has created characters (Charlotte and Mrs。 Watson) that are more interesting than the original Holmes & Watson。 Then she gave them an even more interesting group of friends to help and be helped。 I was glad to see everyone got at least a little bit of time on the page。 I cannot wait to find out what happens in book 7。

Sherlock Holmes has spawned an entire industry of fiction featuring his past, his loves, his putative children, and earlier adventures that Conan Doyle mysteriously failed to record。 As someone who never quite got into the original stories, I tend to resist the spinoffs unless they have compelling hooks of their own。 Laurie R。 King’s Mary Russell series is one example, Bonnie MacBird’s scrupulously canonical collection of Holmes/Watson adventures another。 Sherry Thomas’s Lady Sherlock series is Sherlock Holmes has spawned an entire industry of fiction featuring his past, his loves, his putative children, and earlier adventures that Conan Doyle mysteriously failed to record。 As someone who never quite got into the original stories, I tend to resist the spinoffs unless they have compelling hooks of their own。 Laurie R。 King’s Mary Russell series is one example, Bonnie MacBird’s scrupulously canonical collection of Holmes/Watson adventures another。 Sherry Thomas’s Lady Sherlock series is now a third。 I encountered this novel through the author’s publicist and decided to read the first book in the series to get a sense of it before agreeing to an interview。 Again, the characters drew me in; I read the rest of the novels, and I will be talking with Sherry Thomas in a couple of weeks。 In brief, these books go beyond adding to the Sherlock Holmes legend。 They reimagine what it might have been if Sherlock (and Watson and several other important characters, as suggested by the title of this sixth installment) had been a woman。 Enter Charlotte Holmes, a short blonde with a love of ostentatious fashion and of baked goods in all their forms, leaving her with something other than the typical Basil Rathbone physique。 But despite her physical differences, Charlotte has a mind every bit as logical and penetrating as her brother Sherlock, whose imaginary presence makes it possible for her to ply her trade in sexist Victorian London。To be honest, I can’t help thinking that Charlotte and her associates are so far away from the original Holmes that they might be better off in their own universe。 The link seems more a marketing decision than a literary one。 But that said, it’s tremendous fun to watch Thomas tweaking the canon, and the mysteries are fiendishly complex yet, in the end, wholly believable。 I’ve read all six and thoroughly enjoyed the ride, but Miss Moriarty, I Presume? is the best of the lot。 。。。more

What a delightful series。 They just keep getting better and better。Just when I think I know where it's going and then there's a twist and I'm surprised all over again。 Thomas never takes the easy way out of a story。 Charlotte keeps coming into her own, deepening her character and overcoming every challenge that comes her way。 I love spending time with her and those she surrounds herself with。The writing and plot are quite detailed, but everything comes together nicely at the end。 I love how the What a delightful series。 They just keep getting better and better。Just when I think I know where it's going and then there's a twist and I'm surprised all over again。 Thomas never takes the easy way out of a story。 Charlotte keeps coming into her own, deepening her character and overcoming every challenge that comes her way。 I love spending time with her and those she surrounds herself with。The writing and plot are quite detailed, but everything comes together nicely at the end。 I love how the slow burn romance is finally igniting。 I love Charlotte’s relationships with her sister and Mrs。 Watson。Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

3。5 starsThe Lady Sherlock books are much fun, if a bit preposterous。 Charlotte Holmes, the peculiar genius, purports to be the sister of the famous detective。 Her sisters, her assistant Mrs。 Watson, and her lover Lord Ingram form an appealing ensemble in solving puzzling cases。One caveat: the plots in these are complex, and this one would be a difficult one to decipher without the background of the other books, in my opinion。 There is no "new" mystery here, just a fated meeting with the diaboli 3。5 starsThe Lady Sherlock books are much fun, if a bit preposterous。 Charlotte Holmes, the peculiar genius, purports to be the sister of the famous detective。 Her sisters, her assistant Mrs。 Watson, and her lover Lord Ingram form an appealing ensemble in solving puzzling cases。One caveat: the plots in these are complex, and this one would be a difficult one to decipher without the background of the other books, in my opinion。 There is no "new" mystery here, just a fated meeting with the diabolical Moriarty who is assuming another identity。The relationship between the characters is fraught with history: former wives, siblings, illegitimate family members -- all tie Charlotte and Ingram to Moriarty。 This time around he asks Charlotte to check up on his estranged daughter, who is secluded at a religious estate and hasn't been heard from。This delivers the action and plot twists that make the series appealing。 Thanks to the publisher and to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

I just love this series! It's getting twistier and more complicated with every book, in true Sherlockian fashion。 But I love the development in Charlotte Holmes's love life in this book。 <3Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy。 I just love this series!
